Summary
The 4th International Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association (IHPA) China Section-Singapore Section Symposium was successfully held on May 7-9, 2010 in Wuhan, China. Academicians Wu Mengchao, Tang Zhaoyou, Huang Zhiqiang, Wang Zhengguo, Liu Yunyi, Wang Hongyang, Fan Shangda, Wang Zhonghao and Hao Xishan were invited. Prof. Yuji Nimura, President of the International Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association (IHPA), Prof. John A. Windsor, Secretary General of the IHPA, Prof. Liau Kui Hin, President of the Singapore Chapter, Prof. M. Makuuchi of the University of Tokyo, Japan, Prof. Hans G. Beger of the University of Ulm, Germany, Prof. T. Takada of the Kyoto University, Japan, and Prof. Ki Hun Kim of Korea. Prof. T. Takada of Kyoto University, Japan and Prof. Ki Hun Kim of Korea, etc. attended the conference and gave wonderful speeches. More than 1,600 experts and representatives attended this conference and nearly 400 papers were received.
The conference was organized to discuss the progress of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and the hot and difficult issues in recent years from five topics, such as liver diseases and portal hypertension, biliary tract diseases, pancreatic diseases, liver transplantation, and new technologies of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, which greatly promoted the scientific research and exchange of clinical experience in hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases in China, and facilitated the improvement of the diagnostic and treatment level of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases in China.
In recognition of the outstanding contributions of Academician Hao Xishan and Academician Wang Hongyang to hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in China, this congress awarded the two professors the Gold Medal for Outstanding Contributions.
