Summary
The 5th Academic Congress of the International Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association (IHPA) China Chapter, the 6th National General Surgery Directors’ Forum and the 15th National Academic Congress of Liver Surgery were grandly held from March 23 to 25, 2012 in Wuhan Shangri-La Hotel. More than 1600 experts and delegates attended this congress and nearly 400 papers were received. Prof. Henry A Pitt (USA) and Prof. Yuji Nimura (Japan), Past President of International Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association (IHPA), Academician Liu Yunyi (Hong Kong), Past President of Asia-Pacific Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association (AAPHPA), Prof. Palepu Jagannath (India), President of Academic Committee of Asia-Pacific Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association (AAPHPA), Prof. Masao Tanaka (Japan) Prof. Josef E. Fischer (USA), Past President of the American Surgical Association, Prof. Jiao Hong, Director of the Department of Health of Hubei Province, and Prof. Chen Anmin, President of Tongji Hospital, attended the opening ceremony of the congress and delivered speeches. Academician Wu Mengchao, Academician Chen Shao-Lung (Taiwan), Academician Wang Xue-Hao, Prof. Peng Shuji, Prof. Masatoshi Makuuchi (Japan), Prof. Hans G. Beger (Germany), Prof. Sun-Whe Kim (South Korea), Prof. Dong-Wook Choi (South Korea), Prof. Stuart Knechtle (USA), Prof. David Currier Cronin II (USA), Prof. Hong-Jin Kim (Korea), Prof. Kenyatta Cosby (USA), Prof. Tomoaki Kato (USA) and other famous experts and scholars from home and abroad will attend the conference and give wonderful speeches. The conference also invited a large number of domestic well-known experts to give special reports and surgical video demonstrations.
This congress addressed the progress of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and the hot and difficult issues in recent years, and exchanged diagnostic and treatment experiences. The 6th National General Surgery Director Forum and the 15th National Academic Conference on Liver Surgery, held concurrently with this congress, discussed extensively on discipline construction, medical education and medical management, as well as the related progress in the field of liver surgery respectively. The conference was a great success and was well received by experts and delegates from home and abroad, which further promoted the development of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and its related disciplines in China.
In recognition of Academician Wang Zhonghao’s outstanding contributions to hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in China, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Outstanding Contributions. Chen Zheyu received the Qiu Faizu Youth Foundation Award.
